The design process is fun and our sellers have seen an amazing amount of monetary success from their campaigns. How do they do this, you wonder? Well, we went straight to the source to get all the secrets to launching a successful campaign…

Once a month we’re going to interview a top-seller and share the Q + A  with you on our blog. There we’ll dive into their story and ask them to offer some tips + tricks for anyone thinking of creating their own creative campaign. Q: How long have you had an account with ViralStyle?

A: 1 year, I joined the platform when they opened to the public.


Q: Do you create your own designs or do you use the ViralStyle design tools?

A: I contract designers to create designs for me, but when I used to create my own designs I used Photoshop.


Q: Please describe your creative process.

A: I always try to keep plugged into a creative flow and be open for inspiration. I keep a Google Document running on my phone with ideas, and anytime an idea comes to me I write it down. Some of my best ideas come just as I am falling asleep or even in the middle of the night. I’ve got more ideas than I can keep up with, which is great because it keeps the pipeline of t-shirts flowing. I’ve found that inspiration can come from so many different sources and translate to a t-shirt design. You may hear a phrase and realize it may sell, or see a bumper-sticker that you can translate into a t-shirt design for your niches. One of my best-selling shirts came from me getting an idea off a bumper sticker. You have to always be open to getting inspiration wherever you are and any time of day.


Q: What do you think is the key to success when creating a ViralStyle campaign?

A: It is a matrix of three equally important factors. The first is you need to understand your niche, and they have to be a niche that buys t-shirts online. The second is you need to become an expert at Facebook marketing, and put your ads in front of the best people. The third is the design itself has to sell, and it has to be a design that your niche will absolutely love. If any of these three things are off, your sales will suck. But if you can line all three up, that’s when you can bring in the bacon.


Q: What have you found is the best way to promote your campaign and get exposure for your designs?

A: Facebook ads. You have to become an expert at Facebook ads if you want to win in the t-shirt game.


Q: How many new designs do you create a month?

A: It really varies. I know a lot of top sellers who put out 5-15 shirts a day, doing a ton of horizontal scaling designs. My approach is different. I spend a lot more time scaling out the ads on my campaigns and regularly see a ton of sales on each campaign, so I go for quality t-shirt designs over mass quantity of output. I probably average launching 1 new shirt per day over a one month period. Some people run the business model of trying to hit 50 sales per shirt and just run a ton of shirts, with the profit coming from the volume. My business model is to try and hit 1,000+ sales per shirt and do a lot less shirts, but a ton more on Facebook ads.


Q: How much time does it take you to design something new?

A: Since I hire designers to create designs for me, I will spend maybe 20-30 minutes explaining exactly to them what I am looking for. I really want to make sure they understand perfectly what I want from the beginning. Then we go through 1-2 edits of the design, and it’s off to the races from there. When I did designs myself, I would spend anywhere from 20 minutes to 4 hours working on a design, depending on how complicated it was.


Q: What is your favorite part about being a part of the ViralStyle community?

A: The support I get from the Viralstyle staff. They always help me with anything and everything – even after hours. They rock!


Q: What advice would you give someone who is looking to start their first creative campaign with ViralStyle?

A: Embrace failure. You will fail many, many times before you succeed. If you can overcome the discouragement of failure and keep pressing, you can become very successful. That’s a general life tip – and it sure works!
