On any campaign, successful or not, there is a high percentage of cart abandonment. Recent studies are showing that between 60-70% of online shopping carts are abandoned before the purchase is made. Essentially, you’re only converting 1/3 of your potential customers.

In a perfect world you would be able to persuade all cart-abandoners to purchase a a product and triple your volume. Unfortunately, most people never had the intention of buying originally, but sometimes a gentle nudge in the right direction will persuade a good percentage of customers to complete the transaction.

So, what are abandoned cart emails?

Abandoned cart emails are sent to customers who have added products to their cart but failed to checkout.

This is a very effective way to recover sales. According to SaleCycle, nearly half of all abandoned cart emails are opened and over a third of clicks lead to purchases back on your site. you have to understand that customers often abandon their cart without meaning to do so, for example, if they were busy at the time and couldn’t checkout.

How does it work?

A simple reminder of what they’ve abandoned

It’s quite possible that after some time away your customers decide that they do want to buy after all. It may take a few hours after abandonment to be reminded of what they saw in the items in the first place. We want to email the customer back within a time frame where it is fresh in their mind. So, 4 hours after they abandoned their cart we will send them and email asking them if they’re still interested in the product with a link back to the sales page.

Then, on the last day of the campaign, we will send them a “last chance” email urging them to purchase before the campaign time runs out. If you really wanted those items, then you shouldn’t delay. Scarcity is a powerful psychological sales trigger that smart online retailers know to take advantage.
